Faulty MAP sensor, hose to MAP, or wiring & plug to MAP. This measures the turbo boost pressure. It is mounted on top of the cam cover. About 2.4 Bar abs is the normal max boost. Faulty turbo actuator, including connector & wiring. It may be possible to see this moving when revved on the driveway, but would need a helper. Jammed Turbo.
Normal boost is 18-22 psi, so although our test was below that, we are confident that 15 psi would have identified a leak. My engine is Euro 4, so has the electronic actuator. The rotary actuator was at the 9 o'clock position (offside looking nearside) with the engine off and rotated to a 12 o'clock position when started.
It suffered failures of the electronics and sensors as well as the control module and, in some cases, failure of the mechanical parts including clutch-packs. Symptoms include harsh shifting, a loss of drive, noises and, as you’ve noted, failure to select some gears.
