Whenit comes to your car's timing chain, the rule is simple: it doesn't need replacing unless it's causing trouble. But, like any mechanical part, it's not immune to wear and tear. High-mileage vehicles are particularly susceptible to timing chain issues. From our experience, a timing chain is usually replaced after 120,000-150,000 miles. Stoke Audi. £625 for cambelt but couldn’t confirm if that includes rollers and tensioner. They just said it included all that needed to be done. 178kon a timing belt freaks me out. It's like a time bomb. It is definitely doable on your own but it's by no means a beginner job or a simple one. And you need "special tools". Mostly a cam position holder and a lock pin for the gear. You can make homemade tools with a bolt and drill bit though. But for 500 euro, that's a steal where I come from.
